Feb 16, 2008

Mom had been feeling ill for about a week. She thought she had the flu, but in the morning after a night of almost no sleep due to pain in her abdomen, Dave took mom to the emergency room. After several tests, including a CT scan, a MRI, an x-ray, and some blood work, mom was diagnosed with peritoneal carcinomatosis.

I wasn't at the ER when this diagnosis was made, in fact I got there at about the same time that mom was being discharged. But I did hear either a nurse or a doctor tell my mom to "get her game plan together." I followed the nurse or doctor into the hall and asked her what peritoneal carcinomatosis was, and I was told that it was an advanced stage of cancer, probably originating as ovarian cancer.

Of course, I went home and googled peritoneal carcinomatosis right away. I had left the ER feeling frightened, but after reading all of the information I could find on this, I was terrified.
